Flak Batterie Dolmen

Dolmen was, by liberation, the most developed and complete anti-aircraft battery on the island. It also served as the primary anti-aircraft installation for the north of the island. Located at Pembroke, amongst the golf course, it could also aid neighboring infantry installations and engage sea targets attempting to land in the bay. All 8.8cm Flak emplacements are built to Fortress standard (L401), with a Fortress command post (L403) in the center. Two more fortress bunkers were constructed, in the form of an L405 radar generator bunker and L406 generator bunker. The former did not mount the Würzburg as intended (it was installed nearby in a position, and powered by a generator housed in the L405), but rather the Kommando-Gerät rangefinder for the battery, with the emplacement ontop of the L403 proving unsuitable. The L406 was likely put to use as an ammunition store, rather than a generator bunker as intended.

Post war, most of the positions of Dolmen were covered at various points in time. Most of the L401s were closed by the 1950s, the L403 and L406 were closed late in the 1970s because it they being used for parties (along with at least one L401). The L405 was never closed. Around 2012, Festung Guernsey took on the L403, one L401 and the L405, with the latter in a terrible state.
