The Jerbourg peninsula has been home to some of the earliest fortifications known on the island, and was also to be the site of Marine Batterie 3, very early on in the fortification program. The early emplacements were rudimentary field positions for the captured 22cm K532(f) guns installed here, as a temporary measure until the 15cm SK C/28 guns could arrive, although this never materialized. As for the planned 15cm battery, only the substantial type M132 Leitstand was constructed, being the only building built to true fortress standard. All of the other bunkers, although externally and internally appearing as fortress, are actually of a lighter Vf standard.
After the occupation, the optics were removed using explosives from the Leitstand, and later when the bunker was opened for storage the holes were plugged using tar. Much of the site survives in a good state of preservation, including three of the fairly lightly built emplacements. All remaining structures (64) now form part of a Grade A listed site under Guernsey law.
