When considering German communications infrastructure on the island, it is important to consider that it did not infact operate in isolation, and was connected to the continent by subarmine cable, and to Alderney via the Dezimetergerät-Stand at Fort George. When covering a long distance, the strength of the signal deteriorates, and therefore Jersey and Guernsey required the construction of repeater stations, to boost the strength of the signal. Alderney never received a repeater station, as all of its telephone traffic headed for the continent had to pass through Guernsey first, due to the unsuitability to lay a submarine cable. The bunker itself has an identical twin in Jersey, but these are the only two known examples. The internal volume of the bunker hints at its purpose, with two massive rooms for the repeater equipment, at least a meter taller than usual, as well as a garage for the generator. The bunker has no known type number, but cannot be considered an Sk (special construction), given that two were constructed. The bunker at Quatre Vents at the Oberlands is buried as a turning point but remains internally well preserved.
