Army Batterie Gneisenau is a 15cm Batterie located near St. Mathews Church, along La Percee road. The fortifications here are in surprisingly good condition, the majority being on private land unfortunately. The majority of fortifications at Gneisenau are built to RFO Standards, sometimes called Semi-Permanent bunkers. Each emplacement consists of the substantial 15cm Gun Pits, Two ammunition stores, and personnel bunkers. The site also features Tobruks and barracks. All of the emplacements can be seen from roadside, one has a house constructed on it. All bunkers fall on private land. Entering without permission is tresspassing.
The Batterie was constructed early in the occupation, likely early 1941. In 1944 the 15cm Geschutz barrels were removed and transfered to Jersey during 1944, in Jersey they were used as field mounted emplacments until the end of the war. There are no visible traces. The Batteries remains on Guernsey remained dissused until the German surrender and subsiquent liberation.
